Parameters for General Education Courses (PDF)
Faculty Senate passes resolution revising general education course requirements.
On February 1, 2012, the UNCG Faculty Senate passed a resolution to establish parameters for courses that may be offered for general education credit. Effective at the start of the 2012-2013 academic year, Courses that carry general education category designations or markers (excluding WI and SI markers), must:
- Be at the 100, 200, or, 300 level and have no more than one course pre-requisite or co-requisite.
Any such pre- or co-requisite course must carry a general education category designation. - Be open to all undergraduate students regardless of major.
- Be a standard offering (not a special topics or experimental course)
- Clearly address the General Education Program Learning Goals linked to the category designation or marker requested.
Courses that currently carry general education category or marker designation, but that currently do not conform to parameters 1-4 above, must be modified to conform to the parameters in order to achieve re-certification for the designation.
